When talking with businesses who need more leads, sales and conversions – it always astounds me when they dismiss important marketing channels by saying, “we tried that, it didn’t work”. It’s as though, there was only ever one way of doing things!

Sure, you may have tried some digital marketing channels that didn’t work – at that point in time, or with the content you were using, or with the targeting you set, or with the budget you had. One of the worst things I’ve seen from companies – is when their internal marketing team starts an ad campaign, for example, and just lets it run without ever checking in on it. An effective ad campaign needs regular monitoring, optimisations, updates, testing and thorough reporting to see where improvements can be made. Stop wasting money on ad spend, with campaigns that are not being effectively managed and optimised.

How persistence and testing separate winners from losers

When I started my second business and launched its website, I also engaged our SEO guru to work his magic. Month 1 – nothing. Month 2 – Still waiting to be ranked. More testing, more tweaking, more content creation, more ‘doing the work’. Month 3,4,5,6 – then boom! We started ranking. Fast forward to 2 years later and we are sitting pretty on page 1 for all the target keywords that are important to us.

Imagine I gave up in month 6 – and decided “we tried that, it’s didn’t work”. Persistence pays off in digital marketing.
